Mexico City – President Claudia of Mexico has issued a stern warning to tech giant Google, stating that her administration will take legal action if the company continues to label the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” on its maps.
During a press conference at the National Palace, President Claudia expressed outrage over what she described as an “unacceptable misrepresentation of geography” that undermines Mexico’s sovereignty and historical ties to the region. “The Gulf of Mexico is not up for debate. It has been recognized as such for centuries, and any attempt to rename it is a direct affront to our nation,” she declared.
Reports began circulating earlier this week that some users had noticed the controversial labeling on Google Maps. The issue quickly gained traction on social media, sparking backlash from Mexican citizens and officials who accused the company of promoting an “imperialist narrative.”
Google has not yet responded to the allegations, but experts believe the labeling could be the result of an internal error or an external influence. Regardless, Mexican authorities have made it clear that they will not tolerate any attempts to rewrite established geographical facts.
“If Google does not correct this immediately, we will take legal action to defend our national identity,” President Claudia warned, hinting at potential lawsuits in international courts.
As tensions rise, diplomatic experts suggest that this dispute could strain relations between Mexico and the United States, particularly if the name change was influenced by American interests. Meanwhile, citizens have called for a boycott of Google services until the issue is resolved.
This remains a developing story.
